The Iron Horse and His Toothy Friend

The Iron Horse decals are not my designs, I got these off the internet as a test for the White Ink printer I use to make water slide decals.

The white ink printer worked, so this test has stuck around as a moment when the way I created custom decals changed forever. For those that might be new to the hobby, you need to print decals on a white backed paper, then cut them out, or print the decal as white shape first, then apply the colored decal over the top of the white matching shape. Otherwise you paint color will show through the regular clear, non white, decal. There are a lot of variations on the technique, but in general, if you can use white ink to print your decals, you will have a lot more options.

Also, the tires on The Iron Horse are from a Maisto casting. Maisto 1/64th scale cars are quite a bit bigger than normal Hot Wheels, I think the larger Maisto tires fit the HW castings a little better than the original tires.

Toothy Friend’s decals are a mystery, I don’t remember making them, so I’ll assume they aren’t my design. The tires on this one are 3D printed. I used a flexible filament to print the tires, which worked well, but wasn’t going to be very profitable.
